Long-form writing involves risky edits. You may import a new draft, run cleanup rules, move chapters, rewrite a scene, restore an older version, or prepare a compiled export. Each step can improve the project, but each step can also erase useful work if there is no recovery path.

Use snapshots before meaningful edits
A snapshot is best taken before a rewrite, cleanup pass, import overwrite, or structural change. It preserves the current section so you can restore it later if the new draft moves in the wrong direction.

Use backups for project-level recovery
Snapshots protect sections. Backup bundles protect the whole project. A backup should preserve binder structure, document text, notes, metadata, research records, sheets, and recovery information without exposing private storage pointers or stale export files.
Before major imports, cleanup batches, and launch exports, download a backup bundle and keep it outside the app source or deployment folder.
Track revision state visibly
Revision color and status metadata make the state of a draft visible. A section marked Draft means something different from Revised or Final, and visual revision marks help writers remember which lines changed during a pass.
