An AI-assisted book still needs the same publishing discipline as any other document: clean structure, consistent chapters, reviewed front matter, accurate back matter, and export files that match the platform's requirements.
The raw AI draft may contain prompt residue, duplicate ideas, placeholder notes, Markdown formatting, and content that was useful during drafting but should not appear in the uploaded file.
Turn the draft into a project before formatting
Preparing an AI book for KDP is easier when the document is split into sections. Use a Binder-style structure for front matter, chapters, research, notes, and back matter so you can decide what belongs in the final export.

Clean and review before export
Before exporting, remove role labels, AI prefaces, repeated phrases, Markdown clutter, orphan lines, and private notes. Review each cleanup pass so you keep intentional text and remove only the residue.
Snapshots and backups are especially useful before large cleanup passes because they give you a safe way to restore earlier text if a change goes too far.
