KDP DOCX and EPUB Export Checklist for AI-Assisted Books

Use this DOCX and EPUB export checklist for AI-assisted books before KDP review: clean residue, confirm Binder order, omit private notes, and inspect outputs.

Start with the source project

A clean KDP export begins in the document project, not on the upload page. Check the Binder order, section titles, front matter, back matter, and include/exclude settings before downloading files.

Trash, research notes, old drafts, alternate endings, private source notes, and cleanup experiments should stay out of the final export unless you intentionally include them.

Clean AI residue before export

AI-assisted drafts often carry prompt text, role labels, AI prefaces, Markdown marks, duplicated setup, and inconsistent paragraph spacing. These issues are easier to catch before export than after they appear in an uploaded proof.

Awtter's cleanup tools help you preview removals, use line capture for context, save presets, and create snapshots before larger cleanup passes.

Generate DOCX, EPUB, and backup formats from one source

DOCX and EPUB are common review formats for self-publishers, but they should not be hand-maintained as separate source files. Export them from one organized project so chapter order, text, metadata, and exclusions stay consistent.

Awtter also exports PDF, TXT, Markdown, and ZIP, which gives authors proofing files, portable text, and a package for records without rebuilding the document in another tool.

Inspect files before upload

Open the generated files and check title pages, chapter starts, section order, spacing, images, front matter, back matter, and any content intentionally excluded from export.

The goal is not to trust automation blindly. The goal is to make the export review faster, clearer, and less likely to miss leftover AI or chat formatting.
